Decatur Fire Department responds to fire at Caterpillar

DECATUR - The Decatur Fire Department says crews responded to a report of a fire at a Caterpillar facility on August 27.

Fire officials say firefighters were dispatched to 2900 North 27th Street in Decatur at about 2:21 p.m.  According to the preliminary investigation, officials say the building that was on fire was no longer in use, and had started being demolished prior to the fire.  Thirty firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, eventually bringing the fire under control at at 4:30 p.m.

Officials say the fire appears to have started on or near the roof, but the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.  The Decatur Fire Department continues to investigate this incident.
