I-57 NORTHBOUND – An Illinois State Trooper reports witnessing a rear end collision while performing traffic control for an accident on I-57 North around mile post 241.5.

State troopers were managing traffic after a fatal crash occurred on I-57 near mile post 249. Traffic was slowed down as a result of the accident.

Authorities say a 2013 Subaru Forester SUV was slowing down to an almost complete stop due to traffic delays from the accident further north when a 2006 Honda Motorcycle collided with its rear end. The driver of the Honda motorcycle had not observed traffic slowing down. Both the driver and passenger of the Honda were thrown over the SUV as a result of the collision.

The driver of the Subaru was uninjured.

Both occupants of the motorcycle were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda motorcycle was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
