More than 600 athletes expected for 2015 Special Olympics Illinois Outdoor Sports Festival

DECATUR - More than 650 athletes are scheduled to compete in the 2015 Special Olympics Illinois Outdoor Sports Festival in Decatur on September 12 and 13.

Officials say athletes will participate in slow-pitch softball, tee-ball, golf, softball skills competitions and golf skills competitions during this two-day event.  The opening ceremony will be held on Saturday at Central Park in downtown Decatur, with the competitions taking place at Rotary Park and Hickory Point Golf Course.

Some of the activities will be Special Olympics Unified Sports competitions, which combines equal numbers of Special Olympics athletes and other athletes on the same team.  We've included a schedule of competitions below:

Softball: 
September 12
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Slow-pitch softball and tee-ball
10:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Individual skills competition
12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.: Young Athletes individual skills

September 13
8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Slow-pitch softball and tee-ball

Golf:
September 12
9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.: 9-hole golf and Unified Golf 9-hole
9:40 a.m. - 10:40 a.m.: 6-hole golf
11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.: 3-hole golf
9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.: Individual skills competition
12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.: Individual skills competition 

September 13
9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.: 9-hole golf and Unified Golf 9-hole
