Mobile Veterans Center Coming to Lake Land College

Posted: Updated:

MATTOON – Student and community member veterans are encouraged to utilize the mobile veterans’ center coming to Lake Land College on Wednesday, September 2.

The Mobile Veteran Center is the most recent project from the Department of Veteran Affairs to reach the under served veteran population of rural America. It primarily focuses on assisting veterans in readjusting to civilian life.

This center will provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to veterans, as well as their family members. Veterans and their families will be able to identify problems or issues as well as offer individual, family and group counseling.

Vice President of Student Services at Lake Land College Tina Stovall says the college is pleased to offer these services to the community.

“We strive to meet the diverse needs of all of our students, and this is just one way we can reach out to and include our veterans,” Stovall explains.

This mobile unit will have two confidential counseling areas on either end, with a waiting room in the center. Counselors will have real time access to each veteran’s VA records on a secure system. Video conferencing will also be available for veterans to contact a Veteran Affairs Medical Center health provider.

The Mobile Veteran Center will be parked outside of the Luther Student, located on campus at 5001 Lake Land Boulevard in Mattoon. A map of the campus is available here.
