Airport Handling Influx Of Farm Progress Aircraft

Decatur – The Decatur Airport is seeing brisk business associated with the Farm Progress Show.  Jets and private aircraft are lined up on a ramp and may eventually be parked in a grass area.

“We have wonderful infrastructure and we can take any size aircraft,” Airport Director Tim Wright told WAND’s Doug Wolfe.  “Two years ago we had 942 operations out here at the airport during 3 days of the Farm Progress Show.”  A similar number of operations is expected this year.

Will Gaitros, of Gaitros Aviation, LLC, is providing fuel to the numerous jets and small planes landing this week at the Decatur Airport.  They are also providing a number of other services including coffee, donuts and providing a free shuttle service from the airport to Progress City.

“It’s hard to find hotel rooms,” said Gaitros. “Most of them are booked.  We’re having a hard time for some pilots to find some rooms.  And it’s really hard to find some (rental) cars right now.”

The airport expects even more aircraft to arrive tomorrow and Thursday.
