Website Ranks Drunkest Cities in Illinois

Posted: Updated:

ILLINOIS - An interesting list has been compiled. This one ranks the drunkest cities in Illinois. The website Roadsnacks came up with this list and used various types of data to come up with the list.

The writer used criteria like: the number of available places to buy booze and how often people are talking about drinking. It also factored in divorce rates as some studies have shown alcoholism tends to cause divorce.

One city in Central Illinois made the top ten: Springfield. Here's the full top ten list from the article.

  1. Loves Park
  2. Alton
  3. Libertyville
  4. Geneva
  5. Grayslake
  6. Blue Island
  7. Chicago
  8. Springfield
  9. Lisle
  10. Schaumburg

Many of these are mid-size cities in Illinois with many bars in town or nearby, where there’s a higher than average divorce rate. Studies have indicated that when one or both partners in a marriage are alcoholics, that couple is three times more likely to divorce.

According to Roadsnack's analysis, Decatur came in at 53, Champaign 21, Danville 31 and Bloomington came in at number 18.
