Single vehicle crash causes temporary lane closure on I-57

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY - Illinois State Police say a single-vehicle crash caused the temporary closure of a southbound lane of traffic on Interstate 57 in Champaign County Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the crash happened at about 11:50 a.m. near mile post 217.5.  According to the preliminary investigation, a 2007 Freightliner Truck Tractor pulling a 2005 Vanguard Trailer traveled into a grass ditch on the west side of the road, then returned to the road before overturning.

Police say the crash damaged the trailer, rendering it incapable of holding its contents.  A lane of traffic was temporarily closed while emergency vehicles responded.  The vehicle has been removed from the roadway, and clean-up of the trailer's contents is underway.  The driver of the vehicle was cited for improper lane usage.

This incident is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.  We will provide more details as they become available.
