CHAMPAIGN - Senior Master Tina Newberry of Champaign received a very special honor this past month.

In July, she was invited to co-host a demonstration at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.

The event brought together martial artists with intellectual disabilities from all over the United States. Newberry was given the opportunity to help lead the Special Olympics demo team.

The group didn't disappoint.

"What an amazing opportunity to show what these these awesome students can do," said Ellen Reeves, a parent of a Special Abilities Athlete. "So proud of you!"

Senior Master Newberry is a coach to local special needs martial arts athletes as well as co-ower of the Leaders for Life Martial Arts School in Champaign since 1987.
