Slain state trooper to be memorialized Labor Day Weekend

An Illinois trooper, who devoted his life to serving his state and his country, will be honored in Illiopolis Friday, September 4th. The dedication ceremony for the "Trooper Brian McMillen Overpass" will be held at 10am at Illiopolis Memorial Park, at the intersection of Dye Road and Long Point Road. Trooper McMillen was killed October 28, 2007 while responding to a backup call for another officer. He died in a crash involving two separate drunk drivers on Dye Road in Illiopolis.

The service will take place on the Dye Road overpass over Interstate 72. State Senator Sam McCann (R-Carlinville) will be joining members of Trooper McMillen's family, along with Illinois State Police, The Illinois Department of Transportation and members of the Illinois Air National Guard since McMillen served with the 183rd Fighter Wing and completed three overseas deployments. He graduated from the Illinois State Police as president of Cadet Class #113. He was only 24 years old when he died.
