Decatur Fire Department responds to fire on city's north side

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - The Decatur Fire Department says a home on the city's north side was moderately damaged by fire Thursday afternoon.

Officials say firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of East Simpson at about 1:22 p.m.  Upon arriving, fire crews quickly went to work, bringing the fire under control by about 1:40 p.m.

The Decatur Fire Inspector says the cause of the fire was determined to be a tree, which fell onto a power line causing wiring inside the home to short out.  The inspector also says the fire was confined to the kitchen area, and damage outside of the home's kitchen window was also sustained.

Two adults were displaced as a result of this fire, and no injuries or fatalities were reported.  We will provide more details as they become available.
