CHAMPAIGN -- Following a long and at times frustrating offseason, the Illinois football team enjoyed a release of those frustrations in a rout of Kent State on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Wes Lunt threw for four touchdowns in barely more than a half of work, as the Illini beat the Golden Flashes 52-3.
Lunt finished 11-for-19 with 162 yards, in a game the Illini led 28-0 after a quarter. It was also a strong debut for interim head coach Bill Cubit, who assumed the position just 8 days before, following the firing of former head coach Tim Beckman.
The Illini had to wait one day longer than expected to put the offseason behind them. The game was postponed from a scheduled Friday night start time due to lightning.
Illinois will host Western Illinois on September 12.
