DECATUR - Labor Day celebrations in Decatur have officially kicked off with the annual Labor Day Parade.

The parade, hosted by the AFL-CIO's Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly, began in downtown Decatur at 10:00 a.m.  State Representative Sue Scherer is acting at the parade's Grand Marshal, and will be joined by members of several labor unions in central Illinois.

After the parade's conclusion, citizens will be invited to attend a "Picnic in the Park" at Fairview Park.  Admission to this event is $10 for the general public, and will include food, refreshments, and access to bounce houses.  Additionally, We Are One Community officials will be on hand to distribute $17,500 in grants to local charities at 1:00 p.m.
