Rantoul Police Recover Stolen Vehicle

RANTOUL – The Rantoul Police Department reports they have recovered a vehicle at 10:45 AM after it was stolen from the 2400 block of Windward Boulevard in Champaign.

Reports from the Champaign Police Department described the vehicle as a 2004 orange Ford Sport Utility Vehicle. Authorities say it was reported stolen at around 8:15 AM on Monday, September 7.

A Rantoul Police Officer then reported locating the vehicle at 9:50 AM traveling south on Century Boulevard. The officer reportedly saw four subjects in the car.

The driver then pulled into a parking lot in the Golfview Village subdivision in Rantoul. The Rantoul officer then witnessed the driver hit two parked vehicles, at which point all four subjects fled from the vehicle.

One subject was apprehended immediately. The remaining three subjects split up, the driver and one occupant into a cornfield and the third in a different direction.

The driver and other occupant remained in a corn field along East Perimeter Road in Rantoul. Rantoul authorities, assisted by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Department, set up a perimeter around the cornfield.

Authorities say, at 10:45 AM, the two exited the cornfield and entered a vehicle stopped on East Perimeter Road. Officers stopped the vehicle and took the two individuals into custody without incident.

All subjects in this incident have been identified as juveniles.

Two subjects were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of Motor Vehicle Theft. The third was released to a parent, and the fourth has been identified but not located.

This investigation is ongoing, and the fourth subject will be interviewed at a later date.
