Posted: Updated:

EFFINGHAM - After nine months of remodeling, the Effingham Public Library is now open to the public.

Formerly known at the Helen Matthes Library, the Effingham Public Library now offers citizens a larger children's area, a computer lab, a 150-seat auditorium, more public computers, and new study rooms.  Officials say the project cost approximately $3.5 million, with some of the costs paid for by fundraising efforts and a restricted building fund.

The library will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and closed on Sunday.  For more information, or if you have any questions, call (217) 342-2464 or email
