Champaign Police Department Continues Push for Tasers
CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department will soon draft a formal bill to request the purchase of 25 tasers. The motion was approved this week by the Champaign City Council during a study session.
The bill, once drafted, will be considered at the regular council session.
The Champaign Police Department's initial request was denied in 2004. However, Police Chief Anthony Cobb says technology has improved, making tasers safer. The devices would be able to record audio and video.
