Shoreline Classic Participants Reflect

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - It’s been a tradition for more than 25 years: the Shoreline Classic. Hundreds of runners, some elite class and some beginners, competed in the 5 or 15K race.

With elite runners traveling from all over the region, and even the world, to compete; the Shoreline brought out hundreds and the 15K race winner Duncan Kwemboi said, “It's about training.”

Some squads trained for 13 weeks with Shoreline Squad leaders, such as Mimi Walters who said, “I love it. I love the people. I love getting people involved. I love getting people healthy, and you know it's one runner at a time, we just all go out and have fun."

Que Broadnax has been running for decades but still gets the goosebumps every time she crosses the finish line.

Broadnax said, “The older I get, I get a big high cause I think crossing that finish line is the best thing, and now I feel I am not as competitive as I used to be but I feel when I cross that finish line that it's another step."

Another successful year for the Shoreline Classic.
