The Dangers of Propane Fires

CERRO GORDO- Propane gas is used by 40 million Americans for various uses but the dangers in the gas could cause significant damage.

Firefighters trained Thursday night on how to extinguish 100 ft. flames and withstand 3800 degree temps while putting out a propane fire.

Coordinator and EMT Chris Tull said, “the gas burning itself is a  lot hotter than a normal fire a lot of normal fires you throw water on and they wanna go out a gas fires different it wants to stay lit."

Fire departments from all over Piatt and Macon Counties joined in on the demonstration burning.

Tips on how to avoid finding yourself and/or your home a victim of a propane fire is to make sure a professional installs all necessary appliances and to check regularly for gas leaks.
