Vogel 5k Run

Decatur- The second annual Officer Robin Vogel Memorial 5K will be held Oct. 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beach House, 2301 South Lake Shore Drive, Decatur.
    This event is being held to honor and remember fallen Decatur Police Department Officer Robin Vogel who was struck by a drunk driver on Oct. 1, 2005 and passed away two days later on Oct. 3 from her injuries.
    Cost will be $25. To register for the race, go on line at itsracetime.com and search for Officer Robin Vogel 5K and click the registration icon. Registration forms will be available at Kids-n-Fitness, Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Decatur Police Department. Race day registration will also be available.
    All participants will receive finisher medals. Awards will be given for overall male and female winners as well as the top three finishers in each age group for both men and women.
    Kids-N-Fitness will be presenting a Tot Trot, a 1/2 mile kids' race. This race will be free and participating children will receive finisher medals, bibs, shirts, and post race food.
    Money raised from this event will be put towards the Robin Vogel Memorial Scholarship that will be awarded to one high school senior in the Decatur, Macon County area. A portion of the money raised will also be donated to the National Law Enforcement Fallen Officer Fund in Washington DC.
