Old Capitol Farmers' Market Hosting Halloween Edition

SPRINGFIELD – The Old Capitol Farmers’ Market will host the annual Halloween at the Market on Saturday, October 31.

This will be the last market of the 2015 season.

Representatives from HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital, Mid-West Family Broadcasting, SpringfieldMoms.org, Illinois Humane, Illinois Stewardship Alliance, Kidzeum and geHkids have collaborated to create this year’s activities. These activities will include children and dog costume contests, a chef demonstration by Chef Michael Higgins and various other festivities.

Children’s activities will be held from 10 AM to noon in the parking lot on the southeast corner of 4th and Adams Streets and at the St. John’s Hospital booth on the corner of 4th and Adams.

Local artisans will also be onsite exhibiting and selling their original artwork.

Children ages 0 – 12 can register at the SpringfieldMoms.org booth located in the parking lot at the southeast corner of 4th and Adams Streets beginning at 9:30 AM. The contest will start at 11 AM. Radio personalities Brian and Kellie from US 92.7 will be emceeing the Kids Costume Contest and announcing the winners in the three age categories.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive Toys R Us gift cards, compliments of HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Canine contestants should register at the Illinois Humane booth, located near 5th and Adams Street, starting at 10 AM. The canine costume contest will follow at noon.

Prizes for the canine contest will include gifts from Incredibly Delicious, Nature Select Pet Foods of Springfield, Kinner Kennels, Comfy Critters Pet Sitting, Dal Acres Boarding and Grooming, Dog Class Behavior Training and The Cardologist.

Illinois Humane will also feature raffles at their booth. All proceeds benefit animals that come into Illinois Humane’s custody.

U.S. District Judge Sue Myerscough, Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser and former Sangamon County Circuit Court Judge (and former interim City of Springfield Corporation Counsel) John Mehlick will be serving as judges for the Canine Costume Contest.
