85-Year-Old Charleston Man Located


CHARLESTON – Charleston Fire and Police Departments report they were dispatched at 7 PM on Saturday, October 24 to search for a missing 85-year-old man.

Authorities say the subject’s family had started looking for him around Lake Charleston and then later called the authorities for assistance. He was last seen in the area northwest of Lake Charleston in a wooded area. Responders were also informed the missing man had dementia.

The subject was located at approximately 11:30 PM in a wooded marshy area, about ¾ of a mile from his last known location, just north of the lake. He was then transported to a local hospital after being extracted from the area via boat.

The Charleston Fire Chief considers this to be a successful rescue thanks to the joint efforts of all responders and agencies.

Responders from the Charleston Police Department, Charleston Fire Department, Lincoln Fire Protection District, Coles County Sheriff’s Department, Lincoln Fire Dive Team, Arch Air and Douglas County EMA Search and Rescue Team collaborated on this search and rescue.
