32-Year-Old Hunter’s Body Recovered in Creek


SHELBY COUNTY – The Shelby County Dispatch reports divers of the Shelby County Dive Team recovered the body of a 32-year-old man who went missing while hunting on Saturday, October 24.

Divers found the body of Jason Navis in a water-filled, spring-fed creek on the property he went missing on.

Navis was found at 12:45 PM on Sunday, October 25. Navis had been reported missing by his family since the previous day at approximately 6 PM. He had been bow hunting with his brother on Saturday afternoon but did not meet back up with him at their stand after dark. This incident appears to be a fatal accident according to the County Coroner.

This recovery comes after a 20 hour search of the area conducted by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois Department of Natural Resources Police, Illinois State Police Air Operations, Shelby County Dive Team and Rescue Squad, Shelby County IEMA, Sheriff’s Office Reserves, the County Coroner, American Red Cross, Effingham County K9 Search and Rescue.

Approximately 50 – 60 members of the Shelby County community also volunteered their help in the search.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office would also like to extend their appreciation to those who offered their assistance.
