Racial Justice Task Force Application Process Open in Champaign County

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- after years of work  they're finally getting a racial task force in Champaign County. The battle of getting a racial justice task force was not easy.
"Chairwoman Patsie Petrie was originally against it and is now over it..  Step one was getting the task force approved and now its time for step two making sure its substantial and effective" Says Kristina Kan of Build Programs, Not Jails.

In an open letter Monday afternoon the Coalition asked for specifics in getting the job done.

"We want to make sure the racial justice task force is made up of members of the community specifically those affected by the criminal justice system" Says Khan.

Monday night it was announced that the application process is already decided and the application is online.
"There will be a five person committee to interview those who will be brought before the county board" Says County Chair Patsi Petrie

The coalition is hopeful that the task force is a step in the right direction. If you would like any information about the task force or to apply there's a link Here
