Macon County Tax Levy Increase

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - The Macon County Board has approved a new budget with a higher tax levy.

The board approved the new 68.9 Million dollar budget for the new fiscal year beginning December 1st.

The Tax Levy increases by nearly 11 percent. Board Finance Committee Chairman Jay Dunn says job cuts may be needed in the next fiscal year. Equalized assessed value of property has been flat and rising insurance costs for employees and contracted pay increases are major reasons for the needed hike in the tax levy.

Funding for Veterans Assistance in the county will see an increase in the new budget.
