Apartment Fire causes $19,000 in Damage

URBANA – The Urbana Fire Department reports they were dispatched to an apartment building fire at 10:46 PM on Friday, November 13.

Units arrived at 1541 Hunter Street in Urbana at around 10:50 PM to discover smoke showing from the south side second story window of the four unit building. Firefighters extinguished the flames within two minutes of their arrival. The last unit was cleared at 12:30 AM.

Only one apartment appeared to be affected by the fire. It started in a second story bedroom. No injuries or causalities have been reported.

Six people, four adults and two children, were evacuated from the building. The family who occupied the affected apartment has been displaced, but they are currently staying with friends and relatives. According to the Urbana Fire Department, the residents will be in contact with the Red Cross soon.

The cause of this fire is under investigation. Personnel estimate the fire caused around $19,000 in damages.
