Rep. Scherer encouraging residents to nominate Seniors

DECATUR – State Representative Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) is encouraging residents to help acknowledge the achievements of local seniors by nominating them for the 2016 Senior Illinois Hall of Fame.

Scherer says nominating a local senior for induction is a simple and thoughtful way to recognize them.

“Our community has benefited greatly from so many folks who have lived and worked here all their lives,” Scherer explains.

98 Illinois residents, ages 65 and older, have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since 1994. These residents are chosen based on their contributions in the areas of community service, education and the labor force. Inductees are selected following a statewide nomination process.

Scherer says the last time a resident from her district was inducted was in 2005. The inductee was Eunice L. Gingery. Scherer also says she has met many residents she believe deserve this honor and hopes district residents will consider nominating an individual.

Nomination forms are available at the website here. Forms can also be obtained by calling the Illinois Department of Aging’s Senior HelpLine at 800-252-8966.
