Savoy Fire Dept. and Champaign Co. Sheriff team up for Holiday Shopping event

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY – A grant from the Savoy Walmart is giving families in need the opportunity to enjoy an evening of shopping with the Savoy Fire Department and Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

Savoy Walmart store manager Christopher Hundley awarded the $5000 grant to the organizations on December 14 for a “Shop with a Firefighter / Police Officer” event. Ten families will take part in the event. They were recommend to receive support by Head Start and Carrie Busey School officials.

Firefighters and deputies will be escorting the families to the Savoy Walmart on Tuesday, December 22, at 6:15 PM. The selected families will enjoy about an hour and a half of shopping for toys, clothes and groceries.

Store Manager Hundley says that in his 11 years with Walmart, he has “always been honored to support this special event.”

WAND also previously covered the Decatur Fire Department taking children to shop in Walmart.
