Rep. Ammons set to host Criminal Justice Reform discussion

Posted: Updated:

URBANA – State representative Carol Ammons (D-Champaign) announces she will be holding a community discussion on criminal justice reform on Thursday, January 7.

Ammons will be joined by citizens, community leaders and other parties in an effort to discuss ways to positively change the criminal justice system. Representative Elgie Sims, Jr. (D-Chicago) and U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois Jim Lewis will also be collaborating with Ammons to hold this discussion.

“With a keen eye on the administration of police forces across the nation, we must ensure that Illinois is a leader in creating policies that ensure social justice is a priority,” Ammons says.

She also says police reform would not only help the criminal justice system be more sensitive to real world issues, but reforms would also improve relationships between communities and officers.

This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish for the 5 PM reception to share for the potluck dinner. Plates, utensils and drinks will be provided.

The dinner and discussion will be held at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, located at 202 South Broadway in Urbana.
