Clean-Power Transmission Line could Hit a Roadblock

SPRINGFIELD - A clean-power transmission line, planned from Kansas to the east coast could hit a roadblock, if one local lawmaker has his way.

After getting approval from the Illinois Commerce Commission, Senator Kyle McCarter says the Grain Belt Express Clean Line Energy Project isn't as good as it’s being promoted.  He says the company is not a utility, but rather a carrier of electric energy and that the company shouldn't be receiving benefits from the state.

McCarter says, “What they should have done is tagged onto the existing power lines in the state and paid a toll to Ameren or whoever owns those lines."

McCarter and the rest of the senate, along with the house, return to the capitol January 27th, for the governor's state of the state address.
