Champaign Business to host RACES Benefit Concert

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN – Local business, Exile on Main Street, will host a benefit concert to raise funds for Rape Advocacy Counseling and Educations Services (RACES) on Saturday, February 20.

RACES is a community-based rape crisis center serving Champaign, Douglas, Ford and Piatt counties in East-Central Illinois.

Last year alone, RACES served more than 37,408 individuals – ranging from age 3 to adulthood. Their services are free and confidential for those affected by sexual assault, abuse or harassment. They also offer public education and training to schools, employers and organizations.

This benefit concert will feature three musical acts and a local poet performing live in-store at Exile on Main Street. It is set to begin at 1:15 PM.

The event is free and open to the public, but a $5 donation is suggested at the door. Exile on Main Street, as well as Dandelion which also occupies the space, will donate 10 percent of any sale made during the event to RACES. There will also be a prize drawing.

Jeff Brandt, of Exile on Main Street, says both businesses are happy to host these series of events.

“There are a lot of great charitable organizations out there, and to be able to contribute and raise awareness for them on occasion is really great. We hope at the very least to make people aware of them and what they do,” Brandt adds.

RACES staff will also be present at the event to provide information on services and how to support the agency as the state budget impasse continues.

The event will be held from 12 – 4 PM on February. Updates and more information are available on the Facebook event.

The RACES Save Our Services crowdfunding campaign will also be starting that day. Community groups and individuals are invited to donate or create fundraising teams.

Individuals interested in donating directly to RACES can do so through their website. Those interested in aiding in ongoing fundraising efforts can contact RACES by email at williams@cu-races.org.
