Cold Weather - Economic Development Heating Up

Decatur – As temperatures dip economic development in Decatur is heating up.

For the second time in a month groundbreaking took place for a new Decatur hotel.  A four story Hampton Inn will be constructed on Mt. Zion Road not far from the Decatur airport.  The hotel is being developed by Horve Hospitality Management.

“We’ve built over 60 but we’ve developed 19 for ourselves.  So this is number 19 right here,” said Jake Horve of Horve Hospitality.  “With the development of the Mt. Zion area, and the east side of Decatur, and the airport, we felt like this area could definitely use a quality product like Hampton Inn.”

The hotel project will cost over $7 million.  There will be approximately 110 construction related jobs and about thirty full time jobs once the hotel opens.

Horve operates a Homewood Suites in Forsyth and the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel.  The company also has several hotels in Champaign.

Construction is expected to start as soon as the weather allows.  Jake Horve estimates it will take about 10 months to complete.
