I-74 Crash near Oakwood injures Motorist, delays traffic

OAKWOOD – The Illinois State Police of District 10 report a Nissan pickup and red Freightliner collided on Saturday afternoon, causing a lane reduction and delays.

According to the preliminary investigation, a black Nissan pickup and red Freightliner were both traveling on Interstate 74 near Oakwood at around 2:44 PM on Saturday, February 13. They were traveling westbound near milepost 2015 in Vermilion County when some items flew out of the Nissan’s pickup bed.

At that time, the Nissan was traveling in the left lane, while the Freightliner was in the right lane. The Nissan driver veered into the right lane in front of the Freightliner as a result of losing the items from his truck bed. This caused him to lose control of the pickup and spin out sideways.

The front of the Freightliner struck the driver’s side of the Nissan pickup before both vehicles came to a rest.

Tracy Lillard, with the Illinois State Police, reports the driver of the Freightliner was uninjured, but the Nissan driver was transported to an area hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

The right westbound lane of Interstate 74 was shut down for two hours after the crash.

Charges are pending at this time.
