Not Every Child Has Sweet Dreams

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR – Most of us take for granted that all children sleep on a bed at night, and if they don’t sleep in a bed, they probably live in a third world country. But that is an incorrect assumption.

There are young people in your community that don’t have a bed to sleep on at night, and it's a nightmare for most who resort to restless times laying on a floor in a sleeping bag or on a couch. That’s why Ashley Furniture in Decatur is a part of their national companies program designated as, “A Hope To Dream,” which donates mattress sets to underprivileged children ages three to fifteen.

Owner and CEO John Harrison says that, "Having a comfortable mattress to sleep on contributes not only to children's mental well-being and their physical health, but it helps with their relationships and self-esteem.”

The mattress sets consist of a twin mattress, a foundation, a frame and a comforter. The entire package is valued at $650.00.

To refer a child for a free mattress set, and make their dream come true, you can pick up an application at any participating Ashley Furniture store or online at ahopetodream.com.

Every three months a selection committee will review the applications and they will determine who the recipients will be. This year, the newly opened Decatur store will give away fifty mattress sets and hope to increase that in the future.

Nationally, the goal for Ashley Furniture is to donate 6,000 sets.
