Lincoln High School Hires Next Football Coach

LINCOLN - The Railsplitters begin yet another new era in their efforts to end a long football losing streak, hiring Matt Silkowski as their next coach.

The Lincoln High School board of education officially approved the move at their meeting Tuesday night. Silkowski will replace Seth Bass, who was with the program for one season.

The 30-year-old Silkowski spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, helping take the Vikings to the 8A state championship game in 2014.

He inherits a project in Lincoln, where they've endured three consecutive 0-9 seasons. Since winning their season finale in 2012, they've lost 27 straight.

Silkowski will coach the Railers in their last season in the Central State Eight Conference, before a move to the Apollo for the 2017-2018 school year.

In addition to his football duties, Silkowski will coach special education and physical education.
