Storm Spotter Classes Coming Soon

Posted: Updated:

CENTRAL ILLINOIS: Storm spotters are a vital part of the National Weather Service's warning process. Ground truth information can help meteorologists to make decisions on issuing warnings, along with receiving real time information. This can help save lives and allow extra lead time when issuing warnings.

These classes are geared toward people who are new to spotting or a good refresher for a seasoned spotter. Classes usually last 2 to 2.5 hours and are free! Most locations, unless noted, don't require a RSVP and you don't have to be a resident of the area where classes are bring held. If you have an interest in storms and want to learn more you are encouraged to attend.

Here is a list of a few classes coming up. For the complete list of locations, date, times and locations click on the link to the National Weather Service Office Lincoln's website. http://www.weather.gov/ilx/spotter#schedule
