ISP urging motorists to use caution during wind advisory

Posted:

ILLINOIS - The Illinois State Police is reminding motorists to use caution while a wind advisory is in effect for part of Friday.

ISP officials say the wind advisory will be in effect until 6:00 p.m., with southwesterly winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, and gusts of up to 50 miles per hour, expected during this time.  As such, the winds could create difficult driving conditions, especially on east or west-oriented roads, such as I-74, I-72, and I-70.

Authorities also say the wind plays a significant factor on I-74 between Urbana and Ogden, as gusting winds on that portion of the roadway are known to push large vehicles onto their sides.

Anyone driving vehicles with a high center of gravity are asked to use extra caution.
