Springfield Mayor introduces proposal to save 113-year-old building
SPRINGFIELD - Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder will send a construction proposal to developers next week in an effort to preserve a 113-year-old building.
City officials say the proposal aims to save the landmarked former YWCA building located in downtown Springfield. This decision comes after an earlier efforts to remove the building to make room for new buildings to be constructed at the same site.
Under the proposal, developers can bid to develop the block with or without the YWCA building, to develop the land without regard to the building, or to develop the building alone. All bids will be due in April, at which time city officials will select the winning bid or bids.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
