DANVILLE-Members of the University of Illinois men's football team visited veterans at VA Illiana Healthcare in Danville as part of a week of events honoring hospitalized veterans.
The week following Valentine's Day is typically designated for a "National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans" according to a facility spokesperson. During Friday's visit, football players took photos with veterans, shared stories with them and signed autographs. One veteran told the players he hopes they "go pro" so that the shirt they signed for him will go up in value.
"The Illini football team, that's a thrill for me and the rest of the guys," said veteran Norman Griffin. "The kids are very intelligent, personable, got good majors they're working for."
