DECATUR – Thursday evening, the rural king strip mall located in Mount Zion road reported that more than 8 of the businesses in that mall had their copper coiling stolen from air compressor units. Police believe whoever is responsible accessed the units from the roof.
Another theft damaged a facility the Demirco properties on McBride Avenue. More than tens of thousands of dollars in damage was done to the vacant warehouse. 48 feet of copper wiring were stolen from the vicinity.
Detective Sgt. Steve Carroll said, "You know copper is like gold there is a market for it."
Police believe whoever is responsible has a particular skill set and knows the market value of copper and where to go to not become suspicious.
