Crews Battle Champaign House Fire

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Fire Department is searching for the cause of a house fire this morning at 34 E Beardsley Avenue.

Fire crews reported heavy smoke coming from the residence at 7:32 a.m.  Crews quickly put out the fire.

Twelve pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately 26 emergency response personnel responded to the call from Champaign Fire, Arrow Ambulance, and Pro Ambulance. The fire was brought under control at 7:58 a.m. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters.

Total damage is estimated at $17,500 structure and contents.  The origin and cause is currently undetermined as the fire investigation continues.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.
