New proposal designed to make voter registration easier in Illinois

CHICAGO  – Some of the state’s top Democrats are working to “get out the vote.”

Senator Dick Durbin, Senate President John Cullerton, and other elected state officials are holding a news conference today to discuss new legislation.

The Senate bill is designed to automatically register residents to vote when they apply for driver’s licenses or identification, unless they are not qualified or decline.

The proposal is designed to cut red tape and save money.

Illinois’ Primary Election is scheduled for March 15.

The most recent poll shows Donald Trump leading his closest challenger, Marco Rubio, in Illinois.

Hillary Clinton is leading Bernie Sanders on the Democratic side.
