SPRINGFIELD- It's spring semester and once again Political Science Majors will take the Capitol by storm for this years Model Illinois Government Weekend.
Friday through Saturday a students will simulate state legislators with caucusing beginning at 8:30 AM Saturday morning.
More than 300 students from nearly 20 state universities will have the opportunity to gain experience as lawmakers do for the weekend as they perform stump speeches to craft bills and hold debate like forums. Holding positions like lobbyists, journalists, attorney's, budget analysts, and legislators.
The main focus of the event will be the Moot Court Competition, held in the chambers of the once Illinois Supreme Court. Teams of student attorney's will argue before justices and legal professionals and scored of how accurate and factual the presentation is.
The competition will conclude with an award ceremony presented on Sunday.
