empty tomb, inc. sponsoring Mega Work-A-Thon Service and Fundraiser

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY – A Christian service organization is holding a Mega Work-A-Thon and Fundraising Event to collect donations and prepare boxes for local families in need.

Empty tomb will be hosting the event on Saturday, March 5, with pre-registered participants from churches all over the Champaign County area. Participants will be decorating boxes containing staple food items to be delivered to area families in need.

44 churches in the area have been collecting food to help their goal of 500 local families.

This event will also be empty tomb’s major fundraising event of the year. Those participating are also being asked to make a donation to the organization, with a goal to raise $80,000. This money will be put toward the organization’s year-round activities. If they meet their goal, officials say the donations will also expand financial help for local families in need.

As of February 1, that would mean the first $69,796.28 would fill the need in the No-Late-Bills Reserve Fund, and $10,203.72 would be available to expand the Helping Referral Fund.

Donations over $80,000 also go to the Helping Referral Fund.

The organization has been providing opportunities for Champaign County churches for 43 years. Empty tomb also encourages churches nationally to increase their help for others through its research and Mission Match project.

Champaign County church goers who wish to participate in the Mega Work-A-Thon can contact their church or go online to empty tomb’s website, and click on “Megan Work-A-Thon 2016” then mark their church name.
