VILLA GROVE, Ill. -- Crews in Villa Grove spent hours putting out a house fire Sunday evening.
It happened around 8 p.m. along South Oak Street destroying the home. Fire Chief Michael Broeker says heavy flames and smoke were already shooting out of the back side of the home when they arrived. Camargo, Broadlands and Longview Fire Departments also responded to the call as automatic back-up.
Crews were able to put the initial fire out within minutes; however, firefighters were still on scene at 10 p.m. making sure all the hot spots were taken care of.
Broeker says no one was injured in the fire since the family was not home at the time. It's believed the fire started in a back bedroom, but the cause is still under investigation.
