SPRINGFIELD - The National Weather Service is teaming up with Lincoln Land Community College and the Capital Area Amateur Radio Response Team to host a severe weather storm spotting class on February 29.

This two-hour class will be held at Lincoln Land Community College beginning at 6:30 p.m.  NWS Senior Meteorologist Patrick Bak will lead the class in learning more about the formation and movement of tornadoes, as well as how to stay safe during severe weather.

Attendees who successfully complete this class will have the chance to become official NWS storm spotters.  This event is free and open to the public, but storm spotter certification will only be given to individuals 18 years of age or older.

For more information, visit the NWS Lincoln Office "Severe Weather Spotter Training" web page.
