UIUC Professors win Sloan Fellowship


Five professors at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have won the prestigious Sloan Research Fellowship for 2016.

The fellowships, which were established in 1955, are awarded to 126 researchers “in recognition of distinguished performance and a unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field,” according to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, which awards them. The fellowship lasts two years and provides money for research, according to the foundation.

The fellows from UIUC are:

  • -Elena Fuchs, Mathematics.
  • -Kami Hull, Chemistry
  • -Jian Peng, Computer Science
  • -Joaquin Rodriguez-Lopez, Chemistry
  • -Yue Shen, Astronomy
