Mental Health First Aid Training in Central Illinois Can Help Many Situations

ILLINOIS – One in five people suffer from mental illness and an East Central Illinois man wants to help as much as he can.

Ken Polky, Executive Director of the Human Resource Center of Edgar and Clark Counties, is providing mental health first aid.  It’s in an effort to teach people how to deescalate a situation, which can lead to very different outcomes.

Thanks to grant money he can offer the Mental Health First Aid and The Youth Mental Health First Aid at no cost.

The participated learn an action plan called ALGEE: Assess the risk of suicide; Listen nonjudgmentally; Give reassurance and information; Encourage professional help and Encourage self-support strategies.
