Champaign Police Department, U of I officials discuss Unofficial St. Patrick's Day

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department teamed up with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to host a press conference Tuesday morning about Unofficial St. Patrick's Day.

The conference began at 9:30 a.m., and featured Champaign Police Sgt. Joe Ketchem, University of Illinois Police Captain Matt Myrick, and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Renee Romano.  This event was used to answer questions regarding the annual "Unofficial" celebration, and what steps are being taken to ensure student safety.

Last month, the Champaign Liquor Commissioner issued an emergency order restricting the sale and possession of alcohol during "Unofficial" in an effort to keep students safe and cut down on consumption of alcohol by individuals under the age of 21.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
