Champaign police investigating multiple burglaries throughout city
CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department says officials have seen a significant increase in the number of motor vehicle and residential burglaries during January and February of this year.
Champaign police say there have been 95 reports of residential burglaries, and 68 reports of burglaries to motor vehicles, since the beginning of 2016. Authorities say the burglaries are scattered throughout the city, and that the Southwest District has had about 50 percent more reports than the rest of the city.
As a result of investigative efforts, Champaign police say 14 people have been arrested in connection with these crimes. However, the investigation into these burglaries is ongoing.
