Crime Stoppers warning of new scam

Posted:

ILLINOIS - Crime Stoppers officials are warning central Illinois citizens of another scam that is making its way throughout the area.

In this scam, authorities say a group of people visit a home, claiming to have a legitimate reason to be there, such as offering a service or intending to buy an item you have for sale.  During the scam, the home's resident is distracted by one person while other steal items from the home.

In order to protect yourself and your family, authorities are urging citizens to not allow strangers, or anyone that cannot provide a company ID, to enter your home, and to call police if you feel unsafe.

If you have any information on criminal activity, you are asked to call your local law enforcement agency or Crime Stoppers.
