CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- Rain and snow set to move in late tonight making for a slick Thursday morning commute for some.
Low pressure sliding by to our south will spread rain across the area starting after midnight. With temperatures expected to drop near freezing, Meteorologist Adam Del Rosso says some snow could mix in with the rain. Right now, he says, the best chance for snow will be north of I-74 where colder air will be in place.
Because the system looks weak and disorganized, most of the rain and snow will be light with even the highest snow accumulations in our area generally staying under 2". Northern Illinois, especially along the I-80 corridor, could see more like 2-4" of snow.
By mid to late morning Thursday, Del Rosso says temperatures will climb enough where everyone switches back over to rain. The rain will eventually taper off by Thursday evening with most rain gauges expected to have .15-.30" of rain.
